I like to write in.... So, tell us!! What format do YOU like to write in?

I actually like to write in first person AND third person (omniscient). It think it seriously depends on the direction you want the story to go.

I said omniscient third person, though I don't really know what omniscient means. o.o On the other hand, though, it usually depends on the story. It usually has to feel "right" to me when writing in first or third person. I tried starting Archer's Legend off in first person, I think, but it didn't flow well to me, so I changed it to third.

To answer you Danny,
3rd person limited- written in 3rd person from ONE character's point of view (i.e. Harry Potter books)
3rd person omniscient- 3rd person view, the writer/reader knows everything. Character A thinks this, Character B is thinking that. Etc.
And I write in 3rd Person Limited, Omniscient, and First person. It depends on what I'm writing.

I said second person because I enjoy writing in it, and that was the question. But, I more often than not write in third person limited or first person. I, being omniscient, prefer to write in a person that is not.

For some reason, I want to write in first, but I've learned from experience. Third is better to write, and better to read. I had originally planned to write my NaNo in first person, but while I was writing the outline, I realized I had drafted a scene that didn't include my main character. I laughed hard for a while; I had forced my story into third! Which worked wonders, actually.

I enjoy writing in first, because I feel like I'm best at seeing everything from the character's point of view. But, I usually write in third person limited, because there are some things that you can explain better in third person than in first, like gestures and movements, while still keeping certain things from first person, like thoughts and feelings.

I think it depends on what you're writing exactly. I know it does with me. Mostly I stick to the two third person point of view styles, but occasionally I'll write a first person point of view. In my opinion I think first person point of view is one of the more difficult ones to write, simply because if you don't do it right it sounds like something you'll find in a livejournal. But maybe I haven't been reading the right kind of first person stories.
What's really interesting is those few novels that switch back and forth between first and third. That's dangerous territory, but some people can actually manage to pull it off. I've never even attempted it, but it is curious.

I think my default is P3 limited, which is why I'm making an effort to write OAR in omniscient. Or, at least, in multiple limits. I write a lot in first person as well.
Ahryantah- 11-28-2007
I mostly write in third person limited, because that's what I find easiest, at least in novels. I'll sometimes write in third person omniscient in short stories.
Occasionally I'll write in first person if I feel the story needs it. Like others have said, it really depends on what feels right for the story.

Ah, okay.
Slight edit to my answer then!
Umm. Most of the time I end up writing 3rd person limited. But my NaNo has ended up being omniscient, just by my deciding to have chapter two basically revolve around a secondary character.
TakeWalker- 11-29-2007
I've attempted writing a novel in first person omniscient. And amazingly, I don't think I'm the first. I abandoned the idea more because the story was turning out like crap, but I might find a way to make it the whole thing work one day.

For me it depends on what I'm writing but it tends to be 3rd person (limited), although it does occasionally switch between people, just not enough to let the whole cat out of the bag.
