August NaNoWriMo (POLL- PLEASE VOTE) A few people and myself were talking about the possibility of having a NaNoWriMo during August. August would be the perfect month to do this because:
1. It's the end of summer so school (unless you're in summer school/taking summer classes) won't be a major issue
2. By the time it ends there would be two months left before NaNo
3. It'd still be fairly close to when we first opened the new board, so it would help as a promotion point of sorts.
This NaNo would be like the regular one, but here's the difference- I'm not going to force people in to starting some new WIP for it, specifically because I have no ideas for anything besides my own WIP and I don't like the idea of having to start something else simply for this small thing. They do it at NaNoWriYe, and for that you can't count anything not written before you start (so in this case anything written before August) toward the word count, which I think is a good idea.
I'm not sure what to do for those who don't have any WIPs to write but are in an editing mode...I suppose they could do a rewrite thing or something? I don't know.
Either way, let me know what you guys think. If enough people want to participate, then I'll work on getting the details posted as soon as possible so that we can start promoting it.
There's sixteen days left of July, so that should be plenty of time for planning/setting up the board for it/promoting and what not.
ALSO: do you have any ideas for what the prizes could be for winning? I'm guessing we'll probably go with 50,000 words being the goal for it...I suppose I could make some icons for people if that would be the simplest thing for a prize. Any other ideas?

I like the idea. :)
I have plenty of time in August and since need to boost my ego a bit again because I didn't finish my Script Frenzy in June, you can count me in. ^-^
As for prizes.. I personally don't need some sort of prize: a document with 50.000 written words is prize enough for me, but icons do sound nice. :P

August isn't a great month for me, because I'm moving and starting school again in the middle of it. I'm afraid with schoolwork I won't be able to do a WriMo at all. :(

:( That's crappy. x.x

We'll see, but with my classes, my teaching/office hours, my writing center work and a part-time job, I might be tempted to toss myself off the nearest high building anyway. Being adult sucks.

:| Yes it does. I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to do it in November either, but I don't know it for sure. Especially since I really only need two classes (although how I'm going to do that without the insurance people or whoever it is freaking out, I don't know. Apparently I need more than three classes even though I was told I could take up to three, but I really only need two to graduate) before graduating...so assuming I have a job by then, I'll have that and then hopefully only two classes. So maybe I'll be able to do NaNo after all. I dunno. I'm going to try, though, because I totally failed last year and that sucked.

I voted for it, and I'll do my best to participate, but I'm not sure how much time I'll have to put into it once school starts again. Also I'm not sure what I'll write. I could finally redraft and edit my project from last year's NaNo, but I don't know. I kinda want to do something new, but at the same time, I want to wrap this thing up before I start a new project.

Depending on when you go back to school and classes start for you, August shouldn't be that much of a problem for it. I'm not sure how we would do an editing thing because I don't think there'd be a word count...o_O Hmm.
Writersdomain- 07-15-2007
I don't think I would do it, because in August, I'll be editing the project I'm finishing this July, but I still think it's a great idea. And I would be happy to help out however I can.

Nothing wrong with the date, but I, at least, am not really interested in NaNo. My attentions are divided amongst enough projects as it is.

Schedule conflicts? Bah. Multiple other projects? Bah. School? Ahahahahaha.
I am Insanity. I do not care how little I sleep. I WILL WRITE.
Seriosuly, I'm one of those psychos who works best when I have five bazillion things to do at once. The pressure! I needs it! Without it, I just kinda slack off and return to lurking on the internet instead of getting anything done.

Well, what I was getting at was that most of my last years NaNo needed to be rewritten anyway, so I might as well start over and redraft from scratch, but the more I think about it, the more I want a new project to work on for this thing, if I end up doing it at all.

Me too! That's totally what I do all the time. I procrastinate because I can't get anything done unless I have a million or so other things to do when I'm done.

I'd love an August NaNo. it can help keep my mind off of movign into a ew house int he middle of hell, startign at a new school where i have no friends and no one loves me, keep me from remembering that my sweet sixteen will be 912 miles away from everyoen i love and hold dear and generally put me in a better mood. YAY NaNo's!!!!! I TOTALLY LOVE THE IDEA!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D
Although i may be a bit too enthusiastic.
