Seems only logical, if not probable, that somewhere in the universe intelligent life has managed to evolve. It happened on one planet out of countless trillions, why not others?

Of course there have to be. There's proof that other planets in our solar system at one time could have supported life.
And, to all you nay-sayers out there, when Christopher Columbas went searching for the West Indies and found America, they didn't expect it to be there. They were positive they were all that there could be. Why is this any different?

The universe is far too big for life to only exist on this one planet.

The chances of life happening only once are so small that there has to be something else out there. Somewhere.
